Why No Barrier?
Because no one should ever have to prove they deserve to eat. Culture Aid NOLA is one of the few places in New Orleans that families can consistently access fresh food with no questions asked.
Culture Aid NOLA launched to reach those at risk of food insecurity beyond the highly regulated social safety net, the populations most vulnerable in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Since becoming an independent 501(c) 3 nonprofit in January of 2021, CAN has served families on a consistent twice-weekly basis without ever requesting identifying information from a guest.
By removing barriers we are able to reach the ever-growing Asset Limited Income Constrained Employed (ALICE) population, which now accounts for 57% of New Orleaians. To meet families where they are, we work to preserve the dignity of our guests to make it easy to reach out for resources, and look out for one another.
Through partnerships, sponsorships, a small team behind the scenes , and a big team of volunteers on the front lines we have served over three million pounds of food in three and a half years of operations.
